Baytown Little Theater at AACT Festival 2017

Over spring break weekend the cast of Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, directed by Ryan Martin, represented the BLT at the Texas AACTFest 2017 in Lewisville, Texas. The cast consisted of Kim Martin, Sheree Jernigan, Robin McDougald, Ryan Martin, Chelsee Jernigan and Emily Andrews. Crewmembers supporting the cast in performance were Vincent Cooper, Stephen Bent, Toni Brock, Mary Lou Martin, Marc Anthony Glover-Garcia and Blaine Glover-Garcia. The Christopher Durang play was part of the 2016 BLT season and played to local audiences in Baytown. A one-hour version of the original show was performed along with nine other community theater productions from across Texas at the Lewisville festival.

Baytown Little Theater has participated in several AACT Festivals over the past two decades with award-winning shows. During the 2013 cycle of AACT Fest, BLT’s production, God of Carnage, under the direction of Taylor Dobbs, advanced to the national level in Caramel, Indiana. That year BLT received many awards including 2nd place for a winning performance at the National Level.

The Awards Celebration for AACTFest 2017 was held the last evening of the festival. Kim Martin was named to the festival’s All-Star Cast. Marc Anthony Glover-Garcia received an award in set design for his entry, Laramie Project, a play produced by Lee College. Director Ryan Martin accepted awards presented to Baytown Little Theater for Most Man Miles, Most in Attendance as well as a certificate for the production and participation in the Texas State AACTFest 2017.

Two companies from Texas were chosen to advance to the regional level, and although our 2017 BLT cast and crew was not chosen for this honor, BLT can be very proud of all of their hard work, dedication to theater, and a performance that represented our theater well at AACTFest 2017.

Tickets are now on sale for the hilarious play Squabbles! You don’t want to miss this play about a happily married young couple whose parents move in with them!

Directed by Gordon Gallatin, this hilarious play pits a father-in-law against a mother in a comedic succession of squabbles.  Jerry Sloan is a successful writer of advertising jingles married to an equally successful lawyer.  Living with the happy couple is the not so happy Abe Dreyfus, Jerry’s curmudgeon of a father in law.  Abe is a funny guy to the audience, not to Jerry.  The situation is exacerbated when Jerry’s mother Mildred loses her house in a fire and needs a place to stay.  Abe and Mildred can’t stand each other.  This play is one hilarious confrontation after another until the heart-warming finale in which the oldsters discover that, really, each is not so bad.
