Always…Patsy Cline Closes the BLT 2013 Season

AlwaysPatsyCline-ArtworkA beloved and lovingly remembered country-western singing star comes to the Baytown Little Theater to help us celebrate the New Year and close out our 2013 season. Always…Patsy Cline, a ground-breaking musical theatre phenomenon conceived and written by Ted Swindley, will see its first BLT performance Tuesday, December 31, at 8:00 PM, with a celebratory evening ushering in 2014, including gourmet food and drink and party favors. Tickets for this event are $50 each ($40 for 2013 season ticket holders).

Six performances will follow Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, for the two weekends after the beginning of the year, January 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, & 12. Friday and Saturday performances are at 8:00 PM and Sunday matinees are at 2:30 PM. Tickets for these regular performances, part of the 2013 season, are $15.00 each.

The production features BLT favorites Tammy Skinner-Calaway and Sylvia Wadzinski. Skinner-Calaway plays the role of the personable but world-weary singer Cline. Wadzinski plays her long-time friend Louise Sager, who happened to catch a 1961 appearance at Houston’s Esquire Ballroom, and a years-long friendship developed, ended only by the untimely death of Cline at age 30 in a plane crash. The musical is a memory play in which Sager recalls the highlights of the singer’s music and career, and their private relationship. Among those highlights was her appearance as the first female country singer to appear at Carnegie Hall. The musical features 27 chart-topping songs which made her the star that her fans still remember her as.

The production, directed by BLT veteran Gordon Gallatin, will feature live musical accompaniment provided by local musicians.

Given everyone’s social status, they decide they need to do everything possible to conceal the evening’s events from the local police and the media. What happens when a man and woman, on what appears to be a blind date, realize they are really characters in someone’s dreams? Dan Borengasser’s original script, Dream Date, directed by Kim Martin, explores the unusual, surreal and often humorous situation of a man and a woman caught in another person’s dream. Ryan Martin, portraying the Man, was last seen as Fyedka in Fiddler on the Roof and also performed with the national award-winning ensemble of God of Carnage. Maegan Carnew-Megginson, playing the Woman, is returning to the BLT stage and was last seen as Stella in A Streetcar Named Desire. Maegan also serves on the BLT executive board.

Rounding out the ensemble are Rick Olsen, most recently seen in Galveston Wind, and Tommy Worley, last seen in Fiddler on the Roof. The four characters weave a tale of “what if” in a play about finding that perfect dream date while commenting on relationships and finding happiness with that special person.

You won’t want to miss this funny dream fantasy!

Auditions for Simon Comedy Rumors Coming Soon

The Baytown Little Theater will hold open auditions for the comedy Rumors, by Neil Simon, directed by Mackey Skinner, at the theater, 4328 Hugh Echols Blvd., September 15 & 16, at 7:00 PM. Details of the roles are at this link: Auditions info

Rumors, one of Neil Simon’s most popular and enduring comedies, is a farce in which several affluent couples gather for a dinner party celebrating their hosts’ tenth anniversary. However, they discover there are no servants, the hostess is missing, and the host – Charley, the deputy mayor of New York City, has shot himself through the earlobe. Comic complications arise when, given everyone’s social status (lawyer, CPA, psychiatrist and a politician), they decide they need to do everything possible to conceal the evening’s events from the local police and the media.  However, the police do arrive demanding to see the host and Lenny (pretending to be Charley) comes downstairs to “explain everything.” Lenny invents a ludicrous, rambling explanation for everything. The police, partly out of exasperation, buy the story and leave the house. The guests, elated at their success, begin to troop upstairs to confront Charley and find out the real story once and for all, when an incredible development occurs!

Auditions will be readings from the script and will be held at 7PM on September 15 and 16 at the Baytown Little Theater, 4328 Hugh Echols Blvd., Baytown, TX   77521. For more information about this production, read Rumors.
