First Annual “Rising Star” Local Talent Recognition Show

(Rising Star Scholarship Application Deadline Extended to May 31st)

Mission/Purpose:

To recognize and reward excellence from our local area high school performing arts in the areas of music, theater, and dance by awarding college scholarships to the top ten finalists from a talent competition, and to recognize the value of the performing arts to the developmental and educational aspects of our youth in pursuing higher education experiences.

Qualifying applicants* will be given up to a 5 minute audition at the Baytown Little Theater, located at 2 East Texas Avenue, on the corner of Texas Avenue and North Main in Baytown. Auditions will be scheduled by appointment sometime in June.  Fifteen finalists, as chosen by our judges, will be selected to perform at a special performance at Lee College PAC where they will compete for one of ten scholarships.

Applicant Qualifications:

Must be a high school student and live in one of the following areas:

  • Anahuac
  • Barbers Hill
  • Barrett
  • Baytown
  • Channelview
  • Crosby
  • Dayton
  • Highlands
  • La Porte
  • Liberty
  • McNair
  • North Shore area

Applicant Requirements:

  1. The following submissions must be received before noon on May 31, 2017 using one of the methods below:
    • Emailed to scholarships@baytownlittletheater.org
    • Mailed to Baytown Little Theater, PO Box 2022, Baytown, TX 77522-2022
      • Completed application – located on page 2 of the link below
      • Personal essay – In 500 words or less, describe what the performing arts means to you.  This essay is very important as it is your only introduction to the selection committee.  The essay needs to describe in detail why you believe you deserve this opportunity.
      • Teacher or Sponsor recommendation – In 500 words or less, describe the applicant’s participation in performing arts activities through school or other organizations, and why you feel they should be considered for this scholarship.
  1. It is mandatory for the finalists to perform at the dress rehearsal at Lee College PAC on Saturday, August 12 at 2:30 pm, attend the VIP Reception on Sunday, August 13 at 1:30 pm and perform at 2:30 pm.

Before Scholarship is Issued:

 Award recipient must provide a copy of an acceptance letter or other proof of acceptance to a college or university before the scholarship is issued.

*Qualifying applicants will be contacted with an audition date and time to be scheduled in June.  The selected applicants will be notified by email and their names will be posted online on the Baytown Little Theater website and Facebook page.
