Must see A Christmas Story – It’s a CLASSIC!

A Christmas Story

written by Based on an original story by Jean Shepherd
Script updated by Philip Grecian

directed by Patti Meiners

A young boy named Ralphie Parker only wants one thing for Christmas: a Red Ryder BB gun. However, he is not sure he will ever make it to Christmas, between his brother Randy and the school bully Scut Farkus. Whenever he tells someone how much he wants it, he/she tells him that he will shoot his eye out and refuses to get it for him. Even a department store Santa Claus tells him the same thing. After Ralphie gets a C+, he gets teased again by Scut. In response, Ralphie beats him very badly while cursing loudly. However, his parents do not get mad at him, and on Christmas morning, he gets the BB gun, since his father had one at that age. When he goes to try it out, the bullet ricochets and knocks off his glasses, which he accidentally steps upon while looking for them. He makes up a story about an icicle, and his parents believe him. In the end, a horde of dogs come in and steal the Christmas turkey, so his family goes out for Chinese turkey which is really duck.

PROUD OF THE BLT 2017 AACT FESTIVAL PARTICIPANTS! BRAVO!

Baytown Little Theater at AACT Festival 2017

Over spring break weekend the cast of Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, directed by Ryan Martin, represented the BLT at the Texas AACTFest 2017 in Lewisville, Texas. The cast consisted of Kim Martin, Sheree Jernigan, Robin McDougald, Ryan Martin, Chelsee Jernigan and Emily Andrews. Crewmembers supporting the cast in performance were Vincent Cooper, Stephen Bent, Toni Brock, Mary Lou Martin, Marc Anthony Glover-Garcia and Blaine Glover-Garcia. The Christopher Durang play was part of the 2016 BLT season and played to local audiences in Baytown. A one-hour version of the original show was performed along with nine other community theater productions from across Texas at the Lewisville festival.

Baytown Little Theater has participated in several AACT Festivals over the past two decades with award-winning shows. During the 2013 cycle of AACT Fest, BLT’s production, God of Carnage, under the direction of Taylor Dobbs, advanced to the national level in Caramel, Indiana. That year BLT received many awards including 2nd place for a winning performance at the National Level.

The Awards Celebration for AACTFest 2017 was held the last evening of the festival. Kim Martin was named to the festival’s All-Star Cast. Marc Anthony Glover-Garcia received an award in set design for his entry, Laramie Project, a play produced by Lee College. Director Ryan Martin accepted awards presented to Baytown Little Theater for Most Man Miles, Most in Attendance as well as a certificate for the production and participation in the Texas State AACTFest 2017.

Two companies from Texas were chosen to advance to the regional level, and although our 2017 BLT cast and crew was not chosen for this honor, BLT can be very proud of all of their hard work, dedication to theater, and a performance that represented our theater well at AACTFest 2017.

Memorial Service for Wendy Bailey, BLT Member

Baytown Little Theater members and friends are invited to take part in a memorial service for Wendy Bailey, who passed away recently following surgery.
Faith Presbyterian Church will host the service Saturday, January 14, at 6:00 PM at their building at 3900 North Main Street, at the intersection with Hartman Dr.
Dwayne Bailey, Wendy’s husband, is planning to be at the service, along with daughter Kate Farmer and her husband Ben. The Baytown Little Theater played such an important role in their years here in Baytown, particularly for Kate, who grew up and attended schools here in Baytown, participating in many youth productions and activities.
Both Dwayne and Wendy appeared in BLT productions, directed shows, and played roles in the leadership and day-to-day operation of the theater. Their contributions were significant in the theater’s growth during those years, and we are honored that both Kate and Dwayne feel such a significant bond to their friends here in Baytown that they want to share this time with us.
We are also invited to participate in bringing light snacks and cookies to share during a fellowship visit following the service.
If anyone desires to make a special presentation at the service, please contact Kim Martin (hkmart3@me.com; 713-858-6243) to make your interest known.
Sincerely,

Baytown Little Theater Board

A Great Time had by All at our Annual BLT Volunteer Celebration and Potluck Dinner

Wow!  What a wonderful time to get together and celebrate BLT!  We almost had a full house in the arena!  Thank you to everyone who attended and to all of the help to set-up and clean-up.

Oh the food!

We have some first class chef’s!  The dishes that were brought for the potluck were so delicious!  And more food than we could eat!  The dessert table was overflowing with many a confectioner’s delight.  Who brought the mini-oreo cookie white fudge?!  That stuff is addictive!  Thanks to Carrie and Jim for picking up Rooster’s brisket and chicken to round out the meal.  Beth’s wine kept on flowing, and Will’s beer was enjoyed by many!  Phil’s pork loin was cooked to perfection!  Crockpots of appetizing fare were too many to count!  We applaud everyone who shared their food and recipes with us all!  Bravo!

Year in Review!

Thank you Patti and Jan for speaking to us about how we got to this point, and what the future holds in store!  We’ve come so far in the last year since our 1st Annual Celebration, and the future is full of exciting opportunities to keep growing and perfecting.  For those who weren’t able to attend, the year in review picture slideshow will be posted here.  Be sure and check it out to see if you’re in it!  Link here —> 2016 Year in Review

The Autumn deco-mesh wreath door prizes were a charming event as many were hoping to win!  Thank you to Mike Aschenbrener’s kids for graciously pulling the winning tickets!  The volunteer appreciation ornament with BLT’s picture of the theater inside will serve as a fun remembrance of all our accomplishments!  Be sure and look for them on sale at White Christmas!

As the board lined up to shake everyone’s hand and say thank you, we were overwhelmed with gratitude for how many people hold BLT so dearly in their hearts and lives.  So many give so much to ensure our legacy continues.  A great big round of applause to you all!

Until next year’s celebration, I remain…

Dramatically yours,

Joanna Gold-Baker
