Mustang Martha Auditions for Script Reading

Do you remember the “Purple Planter” over at Baytown Motors in 1994? It was a Mustang painted hot-pink/purple and planted with flowers all over to help promote the auto body shop that’s now Frank’s Collision on Main St. Only after people complained, the city said it was a violation of the Junk Car Ordinance. Martha Barnett, who owned Baytown Motors at the time and was one of the only female auto body shop owners in the country, fought to keep the Mustang. And now, with the blessing of Martha and others involved, we’re making a movie about it!
MUSTANG MARTHA is a fictionalized “inspired by true events” type film, and we are partnering with Jenny Waldo to perform a staged reading of the script here at Baytown Little Theater on Saturday, June 28th at 7pm. She is excited to connect with our historic theater and our members by casting all roles from our Baytown Little Theater community for this event. While we cannot guarantee that role in the eventual movie, she wants to showcase the local talent as we bring awareness to this project. If you’re available, please send us your videotaped audition.
We are telling a Baytown story, and we want Baytown involved. Last November, we hosted a community awareness event at the Baytown Historical Museum when it was still called Martha’s Mustang. Jenny and her team are Houston-based filmmakers with over 25 years of experience and look forward to working with you to highlight Baytown and this feel-good, fun story.
Below is the scene to read for the recorded audition. Female actors read for Martha. Male actors read for Bobby. She does have a couple of male kid roles, but they can simply read for Bobby too.

Also below are the Character Breakdowns that we are casting. There are about 20 good speaking roles and over 30 one-scene/one-liners!
You WILL NOT NEED to be off-book for the audition or for the staged reading. You will be walking around with the script in hand for simple entrances and exits.
We will have a rehearsal sometime in the week or two before the 28th.
We will be complying with the Baytown Little Theater protocol, and all roles are volunteer-based.
